Losing someone you love can feel unbearable. Walking through grief and navigating the emotions that come up even years after your loss is a journey unlike anything you will experience in this life. When the loved one that you lose is a child, the grief can be overwhelming. Today I had the honor of connecting with Dr. Eric Fier, a psychiatrist who not only understands grief  from a professional standpoint, but also a deep personal level.

Dr. Fier joins us in this episode to share his powerful story of losing his daughter, how he conceptualized the process of grief, and how he brings life and hope to the topic of loss. He says after he received his daughter’s diagnosis, he knew he had to “reconceptualize everything” and the conclusions that he came to about the purpose of life and death is unlike anything I have heard before.

In this conversation we not only hear this moving story but also dive in deep to how to find “joy in pain”, embracing challenges by seeing the “opportunities”, how pain is “not relative”, and why we should never say “why me” but instead say “what now”. We also have a beautiful conversation about nature and the implications of stopping, being still and hearing what the world is “singing to you”.

We hope this interview brings you hope if you are experiencing or have experienced a loss, or perhaps if someone you love is grieving we hope this conversation may bring you some insight on how to better understand them. As Dr. Fier mentions in this episode, everyone’s journey is different and there isn’t necessarily “closure” to losing someone.

We would love to hear from you! Connect with us in our private Facebook group: Hope to Recharge, if you have thoughts around this topic or need additional support. As always, together is better!
